Artist Statement

Paper filigree, also known as quilling, is an art form in which narrow strips of paper are rolled, shaped, and arranged in a unique design. Using imagination and precision, I translate natural and man-made objects into quillwork. When creating personalized wedding invitations, I take cues from the invitation's original design and work with a wide variety of specialty papers.

The origin of paper filigree is uncertain, but is believed to have begun in 16th century European monasteries. I enjoy handing down this nearly lost art to new generations by teaching, and find satisfaction in bringing a fresh, modern approach to quilled designs.
