Artist Statement

My name is Beverly Frederick; I am the owner & Artist of TattersDesign which I started in 2006.

I have been drawing since I can remember. When I was little my mother used to say I was "coloring." I would stay in my room and draw pictures for hours. When my son was small, I would draw pictures for him to color. I still refer to it as coloring when people ask me what I am doing in my studio. I love what I do. My love for art is a gift that God passed along to me and thanks so much to my Mom who always supported the artist in me.

I was born in Pennsylvania but have been living in Delaware since the age of 5. I went to John Dickinson High School and then gave up my drawing to work in the real world. Luckily recent events in my life have made it possible for me to be able to get back to what I enjoy. Thanks to my Mom and the support of my wonderful husband I am back creating again...and loving it.

I have had no formal training in art other than High School. I learn a lot from other artists, books and practice. I was very lucky to have a wonderful artist to be my art teacher in Junior High. Then again, when I went to High School, I had the chance to have Ray Lewis (a well known local artist) to be my teacher. Both of them had innovative styles and taught me how important it is to feel the art. To create with your spirit and not just the medium you use.

I am a fine line artist and use a mixture of pencils, pastel and charcoal to try and create something unique. Some of the prints that I have created with my pencils I have computer enhanced using blending techniques to make them have that very soft look.
