THE STUDIO is a renovated cape cod style house located on Dupont Parkway (Route 13) in Townsend, Delaware. We are just south of where Rt 71  merges onto Rt 13 (Dupont Pkwy) and just past the Liquor Outlet and the HubCap Barn.

 

Artist Statement

I come from an artistic family on my mother's side..quilters, painters, crafters, and Ukrainian Egg decorators.. but alas I did not learn any of my skills first hand from them. I remember as a child being around the artistic expression but never really participating..it was just always there..part of family life. I guess the arts just absorbed into my psyche somehow because as I grew older I became more and more drawn into expressing those latent talents that so consumed my predecessors. The love of creative expression in all its forms is in my mind, body and heart and cannot be ignored, so I express myself in whatever medium I happen to fancy at the moment.

I started sewing when I was about 8 years old.I remember looking forward to Christmas and Easter when my Aunt Anna would send me a box of new homemade clothes, it was wonderful! When she got sick I started sewing on my own so I could continue to have unique clothes that no one else had! 

The love of decorating Ukrainian Eggs came about after those who could teach me passed on. I had some of the old world eggs they made and was determined to carry on this tradition so I taught myself the art. To this day I have some of my grandmothers hand decorated eggs.  They must be 70 years old!

I had homemade quilts from my grandmother, aunts and mother and again felt compelled to carry on the tradition. My family made primarily functional, bed quilts but I have expanded into designing, creating and producing my own art quilts--not so functional but very rewarding none the less! I will do commission work and use existing patterns I have made or create new ones upon request.

Photography is a pastime I have used to capture the beautiful flowers in my garden and everyday life around me. This medium serves as an inspiration for my art quilts.  Anything that has to do with fabric will hold my interest. I have branched out into making textile portraits, fabric backed plates, quilted bags, placemats and anything else that strikes my fancy!

Do not expect to see me work in just one medium. There are too many art forms to explore!  My Studio, located in Townsend will offer classes on quilting, egg decorating, and other crafts as the season dictates. Other artists may teach classes at my studio, consign their items for display and sale or rent space so they have a place to express themselves.. or just visit.  My doors are always open!
