Artist Statement

Although it is clear that most artists are concerned with capturing a moment, for me, painting is an expression in progress through which the moment is discovered. I believe my paintings express perceptions of the vibrant colors and shapes of nature relative to my life and spiritual experiences. Outdoor motifs, whether all natural or accentuated by man, provide especially strong motivation and inspiration. I hope my work reflects deep love of light and color and my delight the dancing interplay of brightness and shadow brings as the painting emerges on the canvas.

About the Artist

Janei Folz grew up “out west” and has traveled the world extensively pursuing art and life. Her passion for painting emerged at Saint Mary’s Academy in Denver and led to a Bachelor of Arts diploma from the Loretto Heights College of Colorado and advanced degrees from Colorado and Troy Universities. She has been inspired by several distinguished artists, including Werner De Caro and Antonio Diego Voci in Germany, Rafael Maniago in the Philippines, and Rob VanderZee in Old Town, Alexandria, Virginia. She believes her paintings often reflect their guidance and insights. Janei’s art has received numerous awards, and her paintings reside in private collections across the U.S. and in Europe. Her latest creations may be seen at her West Fenwick Island studio and online at janeisart.com. She exhibits with the Rehoboth Art League, the Art League of Ocean City, the Torpedo Factory art galleries in Old Town, at private viewings and with many of the fine arts festivals and galleries of the Mid-Atlantic region and across the U.S. Janei also has received numerous commissions of works in private collections and as artwork in commercial ventures.

Janei instructs and paints from her studio in Bayville, West Fenwick Island, Delaware. Janei has been a constant patron/sponsor of The Biggs Museum of American Art and of the Freeman Stage at Bayside since its inception.

In complementary endeavors: Janei completed a successful career as a financial manager within the federal civil service, and subsequently owned several successful small businesses, including the Rose Tower Bed & Breakfast in Camden, Delaware, from 1995—2006. She has been a long-time member of The Dover Century Club and the Selbyville Community Club and is the immediate Past President of the Delaware State Federation of Women’s Clubs (DSFWC), an affiliate of the international General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC). She resides in Bayville, West Fenwick Island, Delaware.
