Artist Statement
Early in life Abraxas
developed a curiosity
for color and its presence
in the world around
us. Searching for a
link between the grand
paintings of old masters
and the beauty of nature
led Abraxas to the
New Renaissance Academy.
Libby Berry, the founder
of the school, taught
him the laws that govern
our visual perception,
the foundation of realistic
painting. Implementing
this knowledge allows
Abraxas the ability
to bring a sense of
life to his work.
Growing
up in coastal Delaware
fostered the artist's
great love and appreciation
for the sea. Not surprising,
many of Abraxas' works
are inspired by the
Delaware coastline.
First
Light, the artist's
debut print, is a dramatic
sunrise portrait of
the Cape Henlopen Lighthouse
as it appeared in 1924.
The print was released
in 1997 and was so
well received that
it rapidly sold out.
The lighthouse depiction
can also be found featured
on the Cape Rose wine
label from the Nassau
Valley Vineyard. Abraxas'
image
Millennial
Night also adorns
the labels of select
Nassau Valley wines.
His limited edition
print
Along the
Way is being sold
to raise money for
the Charles Mills Boulevard,
a project to beautify
the coastal route in
the artist's home town
of Lewes, Delaware.
This painting depicts
a path leading to sunrise
over a Delaware beach.
A
love of travel has
taken the young artist
to a variety of inspiring
landscapes. The resulting
works depict rain forests
and islands of Washington
state, seascapes of
the American Southwest,
scenes of the Caribbean,
and more.
Once
again Abraxas has
returned to explore
the hidden jewels
of the East Coast.
Recently printed
works honor the beauty
of the Cape Henlopen
State Park. The
Harbor
of Refuge lighthouse
is viewed from the
dunes of the park
in one stormy image,
while
Gordon's
Pond depicts
a Great Blue Heron
standing guard at
dawn. His latest
prints capture the
tranquility of Rehoboth
Beach.
Midnight
Reflections is
a moonrise scene
over crashing waves
and
The Boardwalk reminds
us of how rewarding
sunrise walks can
be. These and
more can be seen
on his website at
